ART LIFE STUDIO CLASSES

About the classes at Art Life Studios…

You can learn watercolor, acrylic and oil painting.  Beginners are instructed in the fundamental principles of painting : design, composition, balance and the mixing of color.   Advanced students are encouraged to experiment with different techniques in various or combined media.  Large canvases can be custom-built and many supplies can be purchased in our supply store.
Drawing
Each student’s perception of form and design is sharpened by the drawing from still life and live models.  Exercises building eye – hand coordination are stressed.  Completed drawings can be framed or used as sketches for paintings and sculpture.
Sculpture
Many media are available for sculpture, such as wood and stone for direct carving.  Plaster, hydrocal, wax, plastillina, and clay are used for modeling.  Proper techniques in the use of hand tools and power tools are taught, with an emphasis on old style craftsmanship.  Large armatures can be made in the studio with the artist’s participation.  Sculpture mounting may be done by the artist.  Basing services are also available.
Ceramics
Initially hand-building simple forms, students advance to work on larger and more challenging concepts.  Work is then fired in our kilns.  Clay modeling may be done in a number of styles or realistically using anatomical charts, plaster casts, and reference books from our library.  The finished techniques of applying patinas are taught after the piece has been fired.  Students may choose to explore pottery and work on the potter’s wheel
Classes are held in the morning, afternoon and evening throughout the year…
